34-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on West Grand Avenue in Downtown Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (December 4, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident at West Grand Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way in downtown Oakland early Friday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 12:33 a.m. on December 1. According to the Oakland Police Department, the 34-year-old male pedestrian was walking in a crosswalk eastbound on West Grand Avenue when he was struck by a dark-colored vehicle that was going northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
 
After the crash, the vehicle continued without stopping.
 
First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
 
At this time, the suspect is still at large. It is also unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
