Vehicle Fatally Strikes Pedestrian and Dog on Highway 246 in Santa Ynez

 
SANTA YNEZ, CA (December 4, 2023) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 246 in Santa Ynez Saturday morning on December 2.
 
The fatal accident happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. just east of Via Juana Road. According to the CHP, a vehicle struck the woman and her dog in unclear circumstances.
 
Responding Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews pronounced the woman and the dog dead at the scene.
 
Eastbound Highway 246 was closed until around 8:00 a.m. while officers worked on the scene.
 
The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
