Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Car on Johnson Road in Phelan

 
PHELAN, CA (May 5, 2024) – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Johnson Road in Phelan Thursday morning on May 2.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:05 a.m. just between Phelan and Nielson roads. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking along the west side of the road when he was hit by a car heading south at an unknown speed.
 
After the crash, the driver of the car fled the scene.
 
First responders found the victim lying on a dirt shoulder with severe injuries. They tried saving him, but he died at the scene.
 
Authorities only identified the victim as a 43-year-old Phelan resident.
 
Based on debris that fell from the car after the impact, officers believe the suspect car was a dark gray or black sedan with damage to the right side of its front bumper, as well as its hood, fenders and headlights.
