Man Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver after Exiting His Vehicle on 101 Freeway in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (December 20, 2021) – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on 101 Freeway near Trimble Road in San Jose, early Sunday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened just after 1:00 a.m. on December 19. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2010 Honda Accord northbound on the freeway when the car spun out of control and hit the center median. It then came to rest in the second lane.
 
The man got out of the Honda when a passing vehicle struck him. The driver of the passing vehicle then fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
Responding officers pronounced the man dead at the scene.
 
Three other cars collided with the Honda, but no other injuries were reported.
 
Police described the suspect vehicle as a Mercedes Benz C-Class.
 
At this time, the victim’s identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
Crews closed all northbound lanes of the freeway until around 4:00 a.m. while they cleared the wreckage.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
