Driver of Stolen Truck Dies after Head-On Crash on Highway 78 in Ramona

 
RAMONA, CA (November 26, 2023) – A man was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 78 in Ramona Tuesday evening on November 21.
 
The fatal accident happened around 7:00 p.m. near Barnett Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 35-year-old El Cajon man was driving a Ford F-250 westbound on the highway when he crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a Subaru Outback.
 
The impact caused the SUV to veer off the roadway. The Ford truck overturned and crashed into a tree before coming to a stop down an embankment.
 
The truck’s driver, a 35-year-old man from El Cajon, suffered major injuries and died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, the 45-year-old woman driving the Subaru sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Officers said the truck was stolen out of Ramona shortly before the crash.
 
It was unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
