Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash on I Street

 
MODESTO, CA (October 18, 2021) — A man died in a pedestrian accident on I Street near 7th Street early Tuesday, October 12.
 
According to Modesto Police, the fatal pedestrian accident happened around 5:44 a.m. For unclear reasons, a driver in a westbound SUV struck a man crossing outside of a marked crosswalk.
 
Subsequently, the man became trapped underneath the SUV, requiring firefighters to free him shortly after.
 
Following the accident, paramedics transported the victim to a hospital where the victim died. Officials have not released his name at this time.
 
According to the investigation with the driver, officers say the incident happened before sunrise. However, the ultimate cause of the accident requires additional examination. Anyone with more information should call the authorities.
