Man Dies in San Jose Multi-Car Collision on Highway 101

 
SAN JOSE, CA (February 2, 2023) — A man died in a multi-car accident on Highway 101 near Story Road Wednesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal multi-vehicle collision happened around 5:55 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 2017 Honda driver struck a 2007 Toyota that was traveling about 65 mph in the No. 1 lane. Subsequently, the Toyota struck another Toyota, which subsequently lost control and slammed into a Freightliner big rig.
 
Tragically, the driver of the 2007 Toyota, only identified as a 39-year-old from Gilroy, passed away in the crash. Authorities have withheld his name pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the other Toyota suffered moderate injuries and sought treatment at San Jose Regional Medical Center.
 
Due to the accident, officials closed three lanes to investigate.
 
At this time, authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm the details.
