Man Sustains Critical Injuries after Attempting to Stop Carjacking Suspect in Coronado

 
CORONADO, CA (June 15, 2023) – A man was critically injured in a stolen car hit-and-run crash in Coronado Sunday morning on June 11.
 
According to the Coronado Police Department, they received a call around 5:20 a.m. that a car was traveling along Orange Avenue in Coronado with a screaming man clinging to the car’s hood.
 
A short time later, police received another call about a crash on the Coronado Bridge Toll Plaza.
 
Responding officers located the car near the Toll Plaza, where it struck a concrete toll structure. They also found the 33-year-old man lying on the ground with life-threatening injuries. The victim as ejected from the car’s hood after the crash.
 
The suspect driver, an 18-year-old man, and his female juvenile passenger were located on the bridge access road shortly after the crash.
 
The teenagers allegedly stole the vehicle from the victim. The victim jumped on the hood of the car in an attempt to stop them.
 
Police arrested the teen driver, who now faces charges of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, vehicle theft, felony hit-and-run and attempted murder.
 
It is unclear whether the passenger will be charged. However, additional charges are pending as an investigation continues.
