Man Dies after Struck by Car on Lancaster Boulevard near Valley Central Way

 
LANCASTER, CA (August 14, 2023) – Justin Rhodes was hit and killed by a car in Lancaster Saturday afternoon on August 5.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:02 p.m. on Lancaster Boulevard, just west of Valley Central Way. According to the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, a woman stopped her car to allow what she believed to be homeless people cross the street when a man got up from a bus bench, hit her car, grabbed her door handle and tried to get in.
 
As the woman tried to drive away, she ran over the man causing him fatal injuries.
 
Authorities identified Rhodes as the fatal victim. He was 39 years old and an Army veteran who did two tours in Iraq. He had been suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder for years, according to his family.
 
Sheriff’s officials did not identify the female driver.
 
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
