Justin Barnes Seriously Injured in Fiery Pursuit near Twin View Boulevard [Redding, CA]

Wanted Suspect Joshua Blackwood Drives off Embankment in Redding after Fleeing Police Injuring His Passenger Justin Barnes

 
REDDING, CA (March 15, 2022) – Justin Barnes suffered serious injuries in a fiery pursuit in Redding on Friday evening.
 
Around 10:30 p.m. on March 11, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Boulder Creek and North Boulder drives, according to the Redding Police Department.
 
The vehicle was driven by 37-year-old Joshua Leroy Blackwood of Redding, a wanted felon with multiple felony warrants. He refused to yield and fled from officers, leading the chase.
 
Blackwood drove the vehicle through a fence and down the embankment that separates Twin View Boulevard from North Market Street. The vehicle then overturned about 30 to 40 feet down an embankment into a creek, where it burst into flames.
 
After the crash, Blackwood abandoned the burning vehicle and his passenger Barnes, a 32-year-old Redding resident. After that, he ran into a nearby greenbelt.
 
Responding units pulled Barnes from the vehicle and transported him to Mercy Medical Center with serious injuries.
 
Police later located Blackwood hiding in the brush and arrested him. They booked him into the Shasta County Jail for his original warrants and additional charges of felony evading and a hit-and-run resulting in injury.
