Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Sedan on Highway 74 near Leon Road

 
HOMELAND, CA (July 5, 2023)Julio Leiva was killed in a pedestrian accident in Homeland Sunday night on July 2.
 
The fatal accident happened around 6:00 p.m. just west of Leon Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Leiva was walking westbound on the highway when a Toyota Camry struck him.
 
Officers said the driver may have been traveling in excess of the 25mph posted speed limit along the four-lane corridor, which passes a housing tract on a relatively straight, flat surface.
 
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived minutes later and pronounced Leiva dead at the scene.
 
Leiva was a 75-year-old Homeland resident.
 
The driver, who was not injured, stopped and was questioned by CHP officers, but it was unclear whether the party was arrested.
