Jimmy Jimenez Detained for DUI, Striking Officer on 80 Freeway near University Avenue

 
BERKELEY, CA (May 31, 2022) — Jimmy Jimenez faces DUI charges after hitting an officer on the 80 Freeway near University Avenue on Tuesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the DUI crash happened around 12:45 a.m. As a pair of Oakland CHP officers pulled over to assist a stranded driver, a drunk driver in a Dodge Ram struck one officer who had exited the patrol car.
 
As a result, the officer suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital for care.
 
Neither the stranded driver nor the second officer reported any injuries.
 
Shortly after, officers located the driver of the Dodge who left the scene but stopped on the shoulder of the eastbound freeway at Pinole Valley Road. There, they arrested 21-year-old Jimenez, of Vacaville, for suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.
 
At this time, officers have him booked into Santa Rita Jail while investigators determine the other outstanding causes of the crash. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP.
