James Louthian Hurt, Driver Dead in Car Accident on Highway 44 near Chateau Drive

 
SHINGLETOWN, CA (August 9, 2021) — A 48-year-old Fairfield man identified as James Louthian suffered injuries in a crash on Highway 44.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Highway44 just east of Chateau Drive at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4.
 
CHP investigators said the 1994 Chevrolet S10 moved west on Highway 44. Then for undetermined reasons, the man driving allowed the vehicle to wander off the road and out of the south shoulder.
 
The Chevy went into a ditch and then struck a tree. The impact ejected the driver from the vehicle. Investigators do not know the speed of the Chevy when it left the road.
 
Louthian who was a passenger in the vehicle had major injuries.
 
The driver died at the scene. Officials have not yet released the name of the driver pending notification of his loved ones.
 
Both the driver and Louthian did not wear seatbelts at the time of the incident, the CHP said.
