James Gonzalez in Jail, Rodney Richard Jr. Dead in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Lancaster Boulevard near Elm Avenue
LANCASTER, CA (March 19, 2021) — James Gonzalez now remains in jail, months after a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Lancaster Boulevard near Elm Avenue.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred on August 4, 2018.
Per detectives, a white GMC Sierra struck 22-year-old Rodney Richard Jr. Based on investigations, Richard tried crossing the street prior to the accident. Shortly after, James Leonel Gonzalez, the driver, fled the scene, leaving detectives on a months-long hunt for his whereabouts.
Fourteen months later, detectives arrested 40-year-old Gonzalez after receiving an anonymous tip. As of now, he remains in jail for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
