Jacob Villanueva Dies after Struck by Vehicle at Castlemont Avenue and Driftwood Drive

 
SAN JOSE, CA (September 19, 2022) – 8-year-old Jacob Villanueva was hit and killed by a car in San Jose on Friday morning, September 16.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:05 a.m. at Castlemont Avenue and Driftwood Drive, near Castlemont Elementary School. According to the San Jose Police Department, a 2022 black Mercedes Crossover struck the 8-year-old boy and his 44-year-old nanny in a marked crosswalk.
 
As a result, Villanueva suffered life-threatening injuries. First responders rushed him to a hospital, where he later died. His babysitter sustained moderate injuries including a broken leg.
 
Witnesses said the crash happened in front of a lot of parents and kids walking to the school.
 
Police said the driver, Shiva Moozoun, was traveling between 20 and 30 mph in the 25 mph residential zone when she struck the victims.
 
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
 
It is unclear if Moozoun will face any charges. An investigation is still ongoing.
