59-Year-Old Man in Wheelchair Dies after Struck by Vehicle in Fresno

 
FRESNO, CA (August 28, 2023) – Fred Leon Black Jr. was killed in a pedestrian accident in northeast Fresno Friday evening on August 25.
 
The fatal accident happened around 10:00 p.m. at Blackstone Avenue and Herndon Avenue, just in front of Jack in the Box. According to the Fresno Police Department, Black was in a wheelchair and attempted to cross Blackstone in the middle of the road. As he entered the northbound lanes, he was stuck by a vehicle.
 
First responders took him to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
 
Black was 59 years old, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office. He was part of the unhoused community.
 
The involved driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police.
 
Alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
