Hit-and-Run on East 42nd Street in Los Angeles Leaves Boy with Serious Injuries

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 26, 2021) – An 11-year-old boy was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident on East 42nd Street near McKinley Avenue.
 
The crash happened around 4:00 p.m., March 25. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the boy ran across the street to catch up with a passing ice cream truck. The child then stopped and checked both directions of traffic before he crossed the street. As he was running across the street, an SUV struck him.
 
Officials said the driver immediately stopped, got out of his SUV, and checked on the child. But moments later, the driver re-entered his vehicle and fled the scene without rendering aid or identifying himself.
 
Paramedics took the boy to a local hospital with severe injuries.
 
The boy’s family identified him as Frank Portillo. They said he is in stable condition.
