Ezekiel Beas Dead, Isidrone Martinez Detained after La Costa DUI Car Crash

 
LA COSTA, CA (April 7, 2022) – A man died while six others sustained injuries following a DUI crash on 5 Freeway on Wednesday, March 23.
 
Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Ezekiel Beas of Vista as the unrestrained passenger who died in the accident, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 2:45 a.m. As per reports, a northbound Honda Civic swerved right into a Caltrans construction area before rear-ending a Toyota Prius near La Costa Avenue.
 
The impact of the crash caused the Honda to lose control, drive up an embankment and overturned onto the freeway.
 
Beas and another passenger ejected from the vehicle. Beas came to rest in the number 3 lane. However, a vehicle then struck him.
 
California Highway Patrol and Encinitas Fire personnel pronounced Beas dead at the scene.
 
The Honda driver, identified as 20-year-old Isidrone Martinez, sustained life-threatening injuries. Officers later arrested Martinez on suspicion of felony DUI.
 
Meanwhile, the other passengers – a 22-year-old Valley Center woman, a 20-year-old Oceanside man, and a 20-year-old Oceanside woman – sustained major injuries.
 
The occupants of the Toyota suffered minor injuries.
