World-Champion Cyclist Dies after Struck by Car in Presidio

 
PRESIDIO, CA (April 9, 2023)Ethan Boyes was killed in a bicycle accident in Presidio Tuesday afternoon on April 4.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:00 p.m. on Arguello Boulevard, just south of Washington Boulevard. The location of the crash is near the Presidio Golf Course and the Presidio Loop trailhead. According to the United States Park Police, Boyes was riding his bicycle south on Arguello when a northbound vehicle hit him after the driver swerved across the center line and into the bike lane.
 
First responders rushed Boyes to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
The vehicle’s driver was also hospitalized but is expected to survive.
 
Boyes was the current world champion in the Masters Track Men’s 40-44 Time Trial and Sprint events held last fall. He was a 10-time national champion during his career and still holds a world record for men ages 35-39 in the 1,000-meter time trial event.
