Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident on Highway 299 in Burney

 
BURNEY, CA (March 15, 2021) – An elderly woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Highway 299 in Burney late Thursday evening, March 11.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. near Hudson Street. The woman was walking at the intersection when a black SUV struck her.
 
First responders found the female pedestrian lying in the roadway with severe injuries. They attempted saving her, but she died at the scene.
 
A witness told officers that the SUV dragged the pedestrian under vehicle for some distance, before the victim’s body was dislodged. The driver then fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
CHP’s investigation is active and ongoing. Officers asked anyone with further information about the accident to contact CHP’s Redding Area Office at (530) 225-0500. Callers can remain anonymous.
