1 Dead, Passenger Injured in Single-Car Crash on Highway 101 in Los Alamos

LOS ALAMOS, CA (December 22, 2023) — A driver died in a solo-car accident on Highway 101 near Palmer Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly single-car crash happened Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a 33-year-old man was operating a Chevrolet Express on the northbound lanes of the highway. For unknown reasons, he swerved into the center median, where the van struck an oak tree branch, causing the driver to hit his head on the driver-side A-pillar and die. Subsequently, the van continued to the southbound lanes where it hit a fence and stopped.

Soon after, paramedics arrived and found the passenger of the vehicle outside of the car and took him to Marion Regional Medical Center for treatment of head injuries. Authorities described him as a 22-year-old man from Oxnard.

At the time of the report, traffic investigators did not reveal if alcohol or drugs factored into the solo-car accident. However, an investigation should reveal more.
