Cassi Tejeda, Courtney Kendall Killed in Chico Car Accident; Matthew Moen Arrested

 
CHICO, CA (February 2, 2022) — Two people died in a car crash on Neal Dow Avenue and 5th Avenue near Neal Dow Elementary on Sunday, January 30.
 
The Butte County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 22-year-old Cassi Tejeda and 24-year-old Courtney Kendall.
 
According to Chico police officers, the fatal car accident happened around 5:00 p.m. Under unclear circumstances, two cars crashed near Neal Dow Elementary. As a result, one of the vehicles collided into a nearby home on the corner of the intersection.
 
Shortly after, paramedics reached the scene and confirmed two fatalities.
 
Tejeda and Kendall were in one of the two vehicles. However it is unclear at this time which vehicle they were in.
 
The Chico Police Department said 31-year-old Matthew Moen was arrested for two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
 
At this time, officers have not established the reason for the accident. However, the Chico Police Department will investigate all angles to determine what had happened.
