Carlos Ramirez Critically Injured, Teodulo Nava Clemente Arrested after Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara

 
SANTA BARBARA, CA (January 2, 2024) – Three people sustained serious injuries and a driver was arrested following a wrong-way accident on Highway 101, late Monday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 25, shortly before 11:00 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a southbound Toyota Tundra entered the northbound lanes. There, the pickup truck collided head-on with a minivan near Bath Street.
 
Emergency crews transported the minivan driver, identified as 49-year-old Carlos Gutierrez Ramirez of Oxnard, and two passengers to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. As per reports, Ramirez and the other victims suffered moderate to critical injuries.
 
Responders had to extricate the Toyota driver, identified as 38-year-old Teodulo Nava Clemente, from his vehicle. He was later arrested and charged with driving under the influence, causing great bodily injury, driving on a suspended and revoked license, and failure to provide proof of financial responsibility for the vehicle.
 
CHP continues to investigate the accident.
