Bicyclist Struck, Killed by Train near 4th Street

OXNARD, CA (July 9, 2021) — A bicyclist was hit and killed by a train near 4th Street and Meta Street Tuesday morning.

According to Oxnard police, the fatal bicycle accident happened just after 11:00 am. For unknown reasons, a 32-year-old man riding a bicycle northbound, ahead of the train, failed to move out of the way. Per reports, the conductor of train 763 even sounded the horn. However, the man who was neither wearing headphones nor earbuds but a hoodie over his head refused to respond.

As a result, the Amtrak train — heading about 20 to 30 miles per hour, say witnesses — struck the man, resulting in fatal injuries.

Fortunately, no one on board the train sustained any injuries. However, this fatal crash remains under investigation, and anyone who has insight should contact the police.
