Bicyclist Dies after Struck by SUV on Monterey Crest Drive in Jamul

 
JAMUL, CA (June 3, 2021) – A bicyclist was hit and killed by an SUV on Monterey Crest Drive at Lyons Valley Road in Jamul Wednesday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly before 7:20 p.m. on June 2, just east of where the road becomes Skyline Truck Trail. According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was riding a black Motiv bicycle south on Monterey Crest Drive and was wearing a helmet. He entered the intersection with Lyons Valley Road directly in front of a GMC Yukon that was heading west.
 
The SUV then struck the bicyclist. Bystanders tried to help the victim until medics arrived but he died before he could be taken to a hospital.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Yukon, a 39-year-old woman, remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash, which is under investigation.
