4 Killed in Fiery Overturned Van Crash on Highway 120 in San Joaquin County

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA (April 16, 2024) — Four people, including a baby, died in a fiery overturned van accident on Highway 120 near Highway 99.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly single-car crash happened around 10:07 p.m. Saturday. For an unknown reason, a driver of a westbound 2011 Toyota Sienna lost control at about 65 mph. Subsequently, the Toyota minivan veered off the freeway during the damp rainy weather and careered into a grassy median. From there, the van traveled downward and became airborne before striking the Van Ryn Avenue overpass and overturning.

Soon after, bystanders rushed to the scene to find the minivan on fire and rescued the occupants inside. However, despite their help, four people passed away at the scene: an infant, a child, a man and a woman.

Following the accident, paramedics rushed a 14-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries. Authorities did not indicate the leading cause. However, we will update this report once we receive additional information.
