8 Children Among Hospitalized in Broadside Crash on Highway 62 in Joshua Tree

 
JOSHUA TREE, CA (October 21, 2022) — Eight children were among those injured in a broadside accident on Highway 62 near Hillview Road Wednesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle crash happened around 6:45 p.m. For unknown reasons, a man driving a Honda Accord, carrying four juveniles between the ages of 7 and 16, turned directly into the path of a Kia Sedona. As a result, the Kia broadsided the Honda before it overturned after the impact.
 
Shortly after, paramedics arrived at the scene. It appeared two juveniles from the Honda were ejected in the crash and suffered major injuries. Paramedics airlifted both of them to Loma Linda University hospital with major injuries. Paramedics took the other juveniles to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
 
In the other car, the male driver and adult female passenger of the Kia also received care for their moderate to major wounds. In addition, paramedics took their four children, ages between 8 months and 6 years old, to Desert Regional for precautionary reasons.
 
Authorities have not identified the leading reason for the accident. However, an investigation into the crash should confirm the cause. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP.
