74-Year-Old Man Killed in Overturned Crash at Eastgate Mall in Universal City

 
UNIVERSAL CITY, CA (November 18, 2022) — A 74-year-old man died in an overturned accident at Eastgate Mall and Towne Center Drive Thursday.
 
According to San Diego police officers, the two-vehicle collision occurred around 9:15 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 74-year-old operating a Mitsubishi SUV westbound on Eastgate Mall entered the intersection against a red traffic light. Subsequently, the SUV crashed into a northbound Honda Accord before it overturned and crashed into a pole.
 
Soon after, emergency personnel arrived and brought a 73-year-old woman riding in the SUV to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The SUV driver, however, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities have withheld his name pending notification of next of kin.
 
As for the 49-year-old man operating the Honda, he was only evaluated for chest pains.
