70-Year-Old Daniel Beavers Dies, Cathie Lee Jailed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Sumner Avenue near 68th Street

 
EASTVALE, CA (February 20, 2023) — Daniel Beavers died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Sumner Avenue near 68th Street Thursday evening.
 
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the hit-and-run pedestrian crash happened around 6:35 p.m. For some reason, 56-year-old Cathie Jiaping Lee struck the 70-year-old man with her black Mercedes-Benz, traveling at an unknown speed. Reports confirmed that Daniel Beavers, of Eastvale, was attempting to cross Sumner Avenue at the time of the incident.
 
Lee, however, left the scene of the crash while witnesses contact 911. Shortly after leaving, Lee was arrested without incident and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury or death.
 
Beavers died at the scene of the accident even after receiving life-saving measures from paramedics. Due to the accident, police closed the north and southbound lanes of Sumner Avenue as deputies gathered evidence and clues for the case.
