Children Among 5 Dead in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 4 in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, CA (November 18, 2022) — Five people died, including three children, in Thursday’s wrong-way accident on Highway 4 near Loveridge Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle collision occurred around 12:10 a.m. Upon responding, CHP officers found two vehicles heavily damaged from the head-on collision.

Per a brief investigation, officers learned that an adult operating a Hyundai Elantra was traveling in the wrong direction along Highway 4 West. Subsequently, the wrong-way Hyundai struck a Ford SUV, occupied by only its driver.

Due to the nature of the crash, both drivers, as well as three Hyundai passengers described as young children by the CHP, died in the collision. All victims’ names are unavailable at this time.

It’s unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in this crash. Although, an investigation into the case should confirm more details.

Even though the crash happened early Thursday morning, investigators would like witnesses’ help in piecing together the events of this tragic accident.

Our deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the families and friends of the victims.
