4 Hurt after Vehicle Crashes into Homeless Encampment on Virgil Avenue

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 8, 2021) — Four people are recovering after a car crashes into a homeless encampment on Virgil Avenue near 5th Street Tuesday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. in Koreatown. A driver carrying two passengers struck a homeless encampment after the vehicle collided with another car.

Soon after, paramedics responded and confirmed that a 55-year-old man, awake and conscious, had his legs pinned underneath the heap of metal. LAFD rescued him shortly after and said that the sofa he had been resting on helped cushion the force of the crash.

While paramedics brought him to a hospital for severe injuries, another team transported the three people in the vehicle to another hospital.

At this time, officials have not confirmed the details of the prior crash or where the liabilities fall. However, an investigation into these factors remains.
