3 Hospitalized in Traffic Accident on 10 Freeway near Corn Springs [Desert Center, CA]

SUV, Big Rig Hit Water Attenuator on 10 Freeway in Desert Center Sending 3 to Hospital

 
DESERT CENTER, CA (April 12, 2023) – Three people were hospitalized in a traffic accident on 10 Freeway in Desert Center Friday morning on April 7.
 
The crash happened just before 7:00 a.m. near the Corn Springs exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, an SUV, occupied by a man and his wife with their two kids, was traveling westbound approaching a construction zone when it crashed into a water attenuator, a water-filled container used as a roadway barrier.
 
Upon impact, the car spun out of control and pushed the attenuator into a lane, where a tractor-trailer subsequently hit it.
 
The woman was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center by Mercy Air with trauma to her face and pain to her chest caused by air-bag deployment and striking the windshield.
 
The man driving the SUV sustained minor lacerations to his head and face. The two kids were uninjured and taken to the hospital with him.
 
Paramedics also took the truck driver to a hospital with minor injuries.
 
Further investigation is underway.
