EUREKA, CA (August 9, 2021) – Three children sustained injuries in an ATV accident near Buck Creek, Monday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 2. For unknown reasons, a collision involving an ATV happened just north of Shelter Cove.
 
The accident then led to an exploding battery, causing burns to three children.
 
A medical helicopter transported a 5-year-old boy to UC Davis Burn Center with serious burn injuries. A separate helicopter also flew his siblings, ages 2 and 3, to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
