2 Drivers Hospitalized, Red Cross, SUV Accident on 880 Freeway in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (March 16, 2023) — Two drivers reported injuries after a Red Cross van and an SUV crashed on the 880 Freeway near 66th Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 10:46 p.m. Wednesday. For unknown reasons, a van belonging to the Red Cross crashed into a Nissan Xterra sports utility vehicle, causing the Nissan to roll over.
 
Soon after, Oakland Fire Department firefighters arrived at the southbound lanes of the interstate just north of 66th Avenue and found two people injured.
 
The Nissan driver, trapped, was freed by firefighters and brought to a hospital for treatment. Another driver suffered unknown injuries. With the help of ambulance staff and fire department dispatchers, the blood carried in the Red Cross vehicle was transported to safety without loss.
