PHELAN, CA (January 20, 2022) — One person died in a multi-car accident on Highway 138 near Highway 2 on Wednesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-car crash happened around 6:42 a.m. Under unclear circumstances, a pickup truck, a Mercedes-Benz sedan and a tractor-trailer combination collided on the highway.
 
Due to the nature of the crash, a driver in the pickup truck became trapped in the wreckage.
 
Upon freeing him, firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
At this time, the cause of the crash remains unclear. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm additional details.
