Child Sustains Possible Broken Ankle after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver at R and 19th Streets

 
MERCED, CA (January 20, 2022) – A 12-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run crash at R Street and 19th Street on Saturday night.
 
The crash happened around 6:00 p.m. on January 15. According to the Merced Police Department, the child was with adults attempting to cross R Street when a northbound vehicle struck him.
 
Responding paramedics transported the child to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera with a possible broken ankle.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the involved vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid. Police described the vehicle as a white four-door sedan, possibly a Honda.
 
Police are working to locate video surveillance from the area. They urged witnesses to contact the Merced Police Department at 209-385-6905 and ask to speak with Traffic Officer Nick de Jong.
 
An investigation into this crash is underway.
