Fiery Crash on Highway 166 in Santa Maria Leaves 1 Dead

 
SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 1, 2023) – One person died and another one was seriously injured after a fiery accident on Highway 166 in Santa Maria Saturday night on July 29.
 
The fatal accident happened around 6:46 p.m. just in front of the Chimeneas Ranch. According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, a black Subaru and a motorcycle collided in unclear circumstances. The impact caused the motorcycle to burst into flames.
 
The fire is estimated to have burned 2-3 acres.
 
First responders pronounced one person dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
 
Another person was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with critical injuries.
 
Crews closed the highway for a time while they worked on the scene.
 
The CHP is still investigating the cause of the crash and factors involved.
