Car Accident on Highway 99 near Highway 223 Kills Driver and Badly Injures Passenger

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 21, 2021) – One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a car accident on Highway 99 in Bakersfield Monday morning.
 
The accident happened around 8:00 a.m. on December 20, just south of Highway 223. According to the California Highway Patrol, an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on the highway at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and drifted off the highway. The vehicle then slammed into a tree.
 
As a result, the driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The right front passenger had major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical.
 
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin is notified.
 
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
