Passenger Dies, Driver Peggy Agaplou Injured after Head-On Crash in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 15, 2022) – One person died while Peggy K. Agaplou was injured in a head-on accident on Highway 178 in Bakersfield on Monday afternoon, June 13.
 
The accident happened around 12:50 p.m. just east of Rancheria Road near the Mouth of the Canyon. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2021 Tesla was traveling eastbound on the highway when it crossed over solid double yellow lines. It went directly into the path of a 2010 Ford traveling westbound and the vehicles collided head-on.
 
As a result, the right front passenger of the Ford suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Agaplou, a 59-year-old Kernville resident, was the driver of the Ford. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center.
 
The driver of the Tesla, 34-year-old Donna M. Smith of Wofford Heights, was not injured.
 
Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the crash. An investigation is underway.
