Early Morning Two-Vehicle Accident on 805 Freeway in National City Kills One Driver

 
NATIONAL CITY, CA (February 9, 2022) – One person died in a two-vehicle accident on 805 Freeway, early Monday morning.
 
The accident happened around 2:11 a.m. on February 7 near Division Street. CHP officials said a Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra collided in the southbound side of the freeway for unknown reasons. The impact caused the Civic to lose control and overturn down an embankment.
 
The male driver of the Honda suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only identified him as a 28-year-old San Diego resident.
 
The driver of the Elantra, a 21-year-old man from Chula Vista, did not sustain any injuries.
 
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine if the driver of the Honda was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
 
Further investigation is underway.
