Late Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway in Merced County Turns Deadly

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (June 1, 2021) – A 63-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway near Los Banos late Sunday evening, May 30.
 
The accident happened around 10:05 p.m. near Volta Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was wandering in the middle of the lanes of the southbound freeway when a vehicle struck him.
 
As a result, the man suffered significant injuries and died at the scene.
 
The involved driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
 
Authorities did not rule out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
