Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99 in Turlock

 
TURLOCK, CA (June 7, 2021) – The driver of a wrong-way vehicle died in a head-on accident with an oncoming vehicle on Highway 99 late Tuesday, June 1.
 
The wrong-way driver killed in the crash is identified as 44-year-old Marvin Hernandez from Daly City. The California Highway Patrol believes he was driving drunk.
 
Around 10:15 p.m., officers made contact with Hernandez before the crash, asleep in the highway center median near Fulkerth Road. They immediately noticed the driver slumped over the steering wheel, with the headlights on. However, moments later Hernandez woke up and hit the accelerator, going the wrong way.
 
Cell phone video shows the driver narrowly missing many oncoming vehicles before crashing head-on into a truck.
 
As a result, Hernandez died at the scene.
 
The two people in the truck survived the accident. One person suffered minor injuries. However, the other victim sustained major injuries. They are currently recovering at Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto.
 
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
