Drunk Driver Causes Crash near New Hope Road in Thornton Killing One Passenger

 
THORNTON, CA (February 6, 2024) – A woman was killed in a DUI crash near New Hope Road and West New Hope Road early Sunday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:11 a.m. on February 4. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2018 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on New Hope Road between 50 and 55 miles per hour when the driver missed a turn and veered off the roadway. It then crashed into a tree.
 
One of the rear passengers who was not wearing a seatbelt, a 48-year-old woman, was ejected from the car. She suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
The driver, a 54-year-old man, suffered major injuries. Two other passengers, ages 12 and 13, had minor injuries.
 
Paramedics transported all three injured patients to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators believe alcohol impairment was a contributing factor in the crash. The conditions at the time were rainy, cloudy and cold.
