Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 1 near Morro Bay Area Kills One Passenger and Badly Injures Three Drivers

 
MORRO BAY, CA (February 28, 2022) – A woman died in multi-vehicle accident on Highway 1 near the Morro Bay area of San Luis Obispo on Saturday night.
 
The accident happened just before 6:30 p.m. on February 26, at San Luisito Creek Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 71-year-old John Ruxton Carroll Jr. of Turlock was driving a Honda CRV northbound on the highway and made a left-hand turn.
 
Carroll then went into the path of a Kia Optima heading southbound, causing the two vehicles to collide. Following the initial impact, another vehicle driven by 66-year-old Vivian Young Gong of Morro Bay crashed into the front of the Kia.
 
CAL Fire SLO responded to the scene and the found the female passenger in the Honda with significant injuries. They took the victim to a hospital, where she later died.
 
Carroll, Gong and the Kia driver, 50-year-old Paul Daniel Gendron of Visalia, also suffered major injuries. Paramedics transported them to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment.
 
At this time, the fatal crash remains under investigation.
