Police Arrest DUI Suspect after Head-On Crash on Highway 41 in Madera County Killing 19-Year-Old Woman

 
MADERA COUNTY, CA (February 15, 2023) – A woman was killed in a DUI head-on crash on Highway 41 in Madera County Sunday evening on February 12.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:00 p.m. at Avenue 15, just near Madera Ranchos. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 19-year-old victim from Madera was driving a 2012 Mini Cooper eastbound on Avenue 15. At the same time, 24-year-old Lorenzo Antonio Morales Cortes of Fresno was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro in the opposite direction on Avenue 15.
 
For unknown reasons, Cortes allowed his car to travel across the yellow line and collided head-on into the Mini Cooper.
 
The impact caused the woman fatal injuries and she died at the scene.
 
Cortes suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Police later arrested him for driving under the influence.
 
An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
