Late Evening Fiery Crash on Highway 99 in Fresno Leaves Woman Dead, DUI Driver Arrested

 
FRESNO, CA (December 5, 2022) – A woman died and police arrested Jose Lopez Gracida after a fiery DUI crash in Fresno late Friday evening on December 2.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Highway 99, just north of Clovis Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 25-year-old suspect from Fresno was driving a Toyota Rav4 when he failed to avoid hitting the Mitsubishi from behind. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway and come to rest on the right-hand shoulder.
 
The Mitsubishi became engulfed in flames. The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Selma, was unable to get out in time and died at the scene.
 
Garcida was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Police later arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
Investigators believe the Mitsubishi was likely involved in another crash before Garcida hit it.
