Woman Killed, Gilberto Gallegos Jr. Arrested in DUI Accident on Highway 58 [Bakersfield, CA]

Police Arrest DUI Suspect after Deadly Crash on Highway 58 at Oswell Street

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 29, 2022) – A woman died and police arrested Gilberto Gallegos Jr. after a DUI crash in Bakersfield early Sunday morning on November 27.
 
The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. on Highway 58, just west of Oswell Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 31-year-old suspect from Bakersfield was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado at an unknown speed and approaching a 1995 Ford Thunderbird that was stopped along the right shoulder. For unknown reasons, he allowed his vehicle to veer to the right, strike the back of the disabled Ford, and continue in a westerly direction. The Silverado then overturn into the dirt shoulder.
 
Kern County Fire Department personnel provided medical aid. The driver of the Ford, a 50-year-old woman, died at the scene.
 
Gallegos was arrested and taken with minor injuries to Kern Medical by Hall Ambulance.
 
The passenger in the Ford, a 58-year-old man, was unharmed.
 
The CHP said alcohol and/or drugs appear to be a factor in the crash. The CHP Bakersfield Area Office asks that anyone with information call 661-396-6600.
