E-Biker Dies after Sideswiped by Pickup Truck on Market Street in Gaslamp Quarter Neighborhood

SAN DIEGO, CA (July 28, 2023) – A woman was killed in an e-bike accident on Market Street in the Gaslamp Quarter neighborhood Tuesday morning on July 25.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the woman was riding an electric bicycle and was ready to head west when she was stopped in traffic in the 500 block of Market Street just before 11:00 a.m. At the same time, a 58-year-old man driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was idling nearby, also waiting for the light to change.

When the light turned green, the Silverado and the e-biker both headed west onto the 400 block of Market. The pickup then sideswiped the e-biker.

As a result, the woman suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead. She was not yet identified.

The driver of the Silverado remained on scene and cooperated with police.

It is unclear if drugs or alcohol was a factor. Further investigation is underway.
