DUI Crash near Pioneer Driver in Bakersfield Leaves One Passenger Dead, Two Suspects Arrested

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 21, 2024) – A woman was killed in a DUI crash near Pioneer Drive and Denison Lane in east Bakersfield early Saturday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on February 17. According to the California Highway Patrol, a truck was heading westbound on Pioneer Drive when the driver veered to the left and crossed the double solid yellow center lines.
 
Seconds later, the truck then collided head-on with a Honda on eastbound Pioneer Drive.
 
First responders found the right front passenger of the Honda with major injuries. They attempted saving her, but she died at the scene.
 
The other two passengers of the Honda suffered major injuries and were transported to Kern Medical. Both were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Meanwhile, officers arrested the 33-year-old driver of the truck for felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury. They also arrested the 29-year-old man driving the Honda on misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence of alcohol.

This fatality remains under investigation.
