Woman Killed, 5 Injured in Car Accident on Highway 50 [El Dorado County, CA]

Three-Car Accident on Highway 50 Kills 1 and Badly Injures 5

 
EL DORADO COUNTY, CA (July 25, 2021) – A Sparks woman died and five others suffered serious injuries in a three-car accident on Highway 50 late Thursday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 5:22 p.m. on July 22, just west of South Lake Tahoe and east of Twin Bridges. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a 2006 Saturn aggressively at high speeds and passing unsafely on westbound Highway 50. She then lost control of the car and crossed into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2015 Chevrolet.
 
The impact tore the Saturn into two pieces. One piece of the Saturn containing the driver then collided with an eastbound 2013 Toyota. The Chevrolet caught fire, but the flames were put out by passing motorists.
 
When officers arrived, the Saturn driver already died at the scene. She was not yet identified.
 
The driver of the Chevrolet and four passengers were taken to hospitals with major injuries. A family member took the Toyota driver for medical care.
 
CHP officials did not rule out alcohol as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
